Just like the pioneers of punk, the troublemakers of trash rock experimented with raucous sounds and elements of garage rock, surf rock, and rockabilly–a conglomeration that earned its name through its “throw away” disposition. The Cramps were the main contenders in the quest to be trashiest of them all, and Poison Ivy was their leading lady. She exuded a level of cool that was near impossible to top–an achievement that holds true today. Trash rock musicians also toyed with the idea of androgyny amidst their (often) drunken demeanors.
